SCEA part I: multiple choice

This afternoon I did the multiple choice test for the SCEA certificate (Sun Certified Enterprise Architect), and I passed it. My score was 83% this time, which is lower than the previous time but I am still quite satisfied with it.

The test center in Haarlem where I did a another test moved to Amstelveen, so I went to a test center in Amsterdam, in the Aristo building.

I am currently in Kilroy, a travel agency in Amsterdam, where I´ll pick up my ticket. I´m going to the States in a week! Sasha and I are going on holiday together... to Florida! It´s a really nice thought -- Florida will be great and seeing Sasha again will be even better.

The computer in the travel agency broke down, so I´ll probably be here a little longer. That´s fine, the German Institute is near here and I´m very early.

The Netherlands - Czech Republic

(c) Euro2004.comYesterday I had dinner with Marjolein. We had a great lasagne while watching the soccer game between Germany and Latvia, which had a very pleasant result.

Therefore we were in a very good mood when we went to an Irish pub in the center of Amsterdam. There we would watch the second game of the evening: the Czech Republic vs. the Netherlands. And what a beautiful game it was! Of course, the result was very disappointing: to loose with 2-3 after being ahead with 2-0 is rather painful. But I think it was the most interesting game to watch of the whole tournament till so far; both teams played beautiful soccer. I liked the way Davids was playing.

Everybody around us in the pub was of course very disappointed with the result. Many people believed that the change of Robben was a reason why the match was lost, and as usual the referee was blamed too. I'm not so sure about what caused the defeat, but I must say I was very impressed by the way the Czechs came back in the match. Perhaps they were just the better team. But anyway: a great game to watch.

Two tests

Monday I will have two tests on the same day. Monday evening will be the last lesson of the German language course, which will consist of a short test on the subjects that we have studied over the past few months. It doesn't require a lot of preparations anymore.

Monday afternoon I'll have a test for the J2EE architect certification. It's part I; a multiple choice test on the theory of the J2EE model and technology. Although I think I'm ready for it, I will spend this weekend studying and revising the theory, because I would like to get a good score.

It's fun to study, because both the German and the J2EE are subjects that I enjoy a lot.

Samen kijken

Samen kijken at the Goethe Institute with my fellow students from the German language course.Yesterday we watched the soccer game between Germany and the Netherlands in the Goethe Institute. I was there with Rene, Suzanne and Noortje, people from the German course I'm doing. Our teacher Sandra and her little son were there too.

The Goethe Institute had invited around 100 people to come and watch the game, and all the tickets had been sold out. There was a large number of TVs and screen throughout the building, as well as in the garden. On the first floor there was a video projection in the main hall.

I had a great evening. Everything was very well organized -- leave that to the Germans! The atmosphere was excellent and we had a lot of fun together. The soccer game was very exciting. Germany scored in the first half, which made half-time a uncomfortable. I think most Dutch fans were quite relieved with the final result, a 1-1 draw!

I took my camera, and there are some pictures online of the Samen kijken experience.

Presentation about J2EE

Yesterday's German lesson was great fun. We studied outside, in the garden of the Goethe Institut. The weather was very nice and they have a great garden. We dealt with the imperative mood; an easy subject. The soccer game was awful.

Today I gave a presentation for a customer on J2EE and Chess' software development process. The presentation took about 1,5 hours and it was great to do! The meeting was in the south of Holland, a journey of around three hours from Haarlem.

France - England

I saw only the last 30 minutes, but what a match tonight... Both teams played very beautiful soccer, and the last ten minutes the end of the game were very surprising and exciting.

I don't frequently watch soccer, outside tournaments like the European Championship, but this was really the game at its best!

Dinner with Marjolein

Yesterday Marjolein came for dinner. It was the first time we had dinner together without Sasha or Jerry, both of which are abroad. Sasha is in Washington D.C. of course, and Jerry is spending two months in Ecuador to do research. Dinner was very nice, and then we went out to a pub. We saw the last few minutes of Spain vs. Russia and had a great evening.

Accidentally I saw two friends in a pub just when we were going to the train station, and after Marjolein caught her train I went back. Had a couple of drinks in the bar there and I was home around 2:00 o'clock. It was a very nice Saturday night.

Today I've spent mainly with studying for the Java certification. Next Monday I will do the test for part one.

Steam train

Steam train crossing the Spaarne. All day long there has been a steam train crossing the Spaarne. NedTrain, a train maintance company near the Haarlem station exists 160 years and celebrates it today.

It reminds me of the steam train in Opperdoes, the village where I was born. We used to play a lot around the tracks of this (touristic) train.

Warm

The weather is great today, and we're working with all the windows open. I'm wearing my shorts, which is a lot better than the warm clothes I was wearing yesterday.

It's a lot less busy now; the shop is still running well and I am working on some Chess proposals today.
