NE2000 under Minix

Spent a few hours last night trying to get Minix to recognize one of my network cards. The NE2000 now works; that is: it recognizes the Ethernet address. Now the network protocol part. Somebody wrote in a newsgroup that if the F5 network dumps give all zeros (like my machine does), a wrong IRQ is a likely cause. Let's see.

I have got NE2000 problems with Minix 2.0.0

After
NE2000: NE2000 280:15

It hangs.

I skipped the wd8003 Test from dp8390.c
Now it shows my hardisk, after the NE2000 line.
But after that it hangs again.

80486, 16 MB RAM, 400 MB IDE
Linux 2.2.22 works fine.

There is a second PC, similar hardware, but 2 NE2000 adapters. One worked, the other one had that very same problem.

I will fool around with the 8 bit / 16 bit detection. I have been playing around with NE2000's before. They know how to stop any computer :)

They certainly know how to make life difficult for a developer :)

It's been 2 years ago since I had this problem, and to be honest I never solved it. Back then I was working on a homework assignment that involved changing parts of Minix. After some experiments with getting it running on this old hardware I switched to running Minix in a virtual machine on my desktop PC.

I can definitely recommend that, especially if you'll be working on filesystems... I'm sure you see why ;)
