Botermarkt

The tables outside. To be honest this picture looks better than it is in real. What a wonderful weather! It's almost midnight and still warm outside.

We went for a beer at the Botermarkt. Somehow we picked the only pub that closed at 23.00 o'clock already, so at the end we were the only table left outside.

At the Grote Markt they're building a fair; it will start on Friday.

Picked up Milena

I just went to the trainstation to pick up Milena! She'll stay here a week.

It's great weather for a holiday; at Chess somebody brought us all ice-creams.

The previous time David and Milena were here was in August 2002.

Early bird

A noisy bird woke me up at 7.00 o'clock. An early bird or in Bulgarian 'rano buden sam'.

Yesterday evening I submitted my third exercise of Internet Programming. It's a nice but strange feeling to be done with an assignment. Since Thursday evening I've been working on it almost full-time, and now it's over.

April 1st

I almost forgot. It's April 1st today.

A very old Internet April 1st joke that is quite funny is RFC 1149 - A Standard for the Transmission of IP Datagrams on Avian Carriers. It's from 1990, this year there's RFC 3514: The Security Flag in the IPv4 Header.

Dinner with Daniel

Yesterday we had dinner with Daniel. Unfortunately the dinner started later than we had planned but it was nice to see him again. I guess we are getting old as we only drank a few beers.

Still, this made me feel brave enough to wake up early too, meaning that I left home at 7:45 o'clock. It's very quiet here at Chess.

Wedding Anya and Pleun

Paviljoen De Witte.Yesterday we went to the wedding of Anya and Pleun. They picked a very beautiful place, Paviljoen de Witte in Scheveningen.

When we arrived it was already dark, but the stairs to the Paviljoen where lighted by real fires. The wedding was very pleasant. There was a very good life-band so dancing all evening.

Pleun is an old collegue (Net.Footworks) and most Footworkers were at the party. Last week we also saw each other, to discuss the present for the wedding. It was nice to see everybody being so dressed up. Edo and Relinde brought us home (thanks a lot!) and because of the summertime we went to bed at 4.00 o'clock.

Today I've been programming again. I'm working on the third exercise of Internet Programming.

Dinner with Joost & Ankie

Yesterday evening we had dinner with Joost and Ankie. It was a very nice evening. Sasha proved once again that Bulgarian cuisine is the best... musaka!

Ankie brought her digital camera, a really good one. She made a very nice picture of the Adriaan at night; I'll put it online later.

Started at 9:15 today.

Early morning life

Ha! I did it again, it's 8.00 o'clock and I'm at Chess already. I woke up 45 minutes before the alarm and I felt nice and fresh.

A 'scary' thought is that when I woke up I immediately thought about a programming problem at work. During my sleep I found a (nice) solution for it. Very useful, but does it mean I don't have a life anymore?! ;)

News in the morning was all about the war of course. The thing with wars is that they are very difficult for journalist to capture in a meaningful way. First of all both sides of course strive to spread as much propaganda as they can, and second most journalists are clearly no experts on war-strategy. Me neither of course, but at least I don't try to discuss on TV the loyalty of the Special Republican Garde, the opinion of the Sji'it people or the deeper strategy of the Americans... Well, everybody his own profession I guess.
