Holiday cups at Starbucks
Friday afternoon we went for lunch at Dickey's, a barbecue place in Crossroads.
There are a couple of different restaurants there, and since a few weeks a Starbucks opened also. It's a lot closer to us than the one on Walnut Street, so that's really convenient.
Of course, my resolution to drink less coffee still stands, but on a Friday afternoon I'll drink a nice cup of coffee. Starbucks is now using the holiday cups.
Dickey's has an automated system to let the waiter know at which table you're sitting. The cashier gives you a key that goes in the machine on the picture above.

Iew Starbucks. The American way of letting you taste how coffee should not taste. :-)
They opened up a Starbucks at Schiphol, and I can confirm that the "coffee" there is just as "good" as the coffee in the American Starbucks shops.
Starbucks is indeed a sort of MacDonalds. You know exactly what you're getting, no matter where you are, and everybody sees it as a treat, but deep down you know that it just isn't as good as eating at a proper restaurant.
Well what do you expect from customers which drink coffee through a small hole in a plastic cap. How are you supposed to taste your coffee like that? They should start serving in open glasses.

Haha Rolf, I couldn't disagree with you more! :)
Granted, the espresso drinks in Starbucks are not as good as in a specialized espresso bar (a certain place in Haarlem comes to mind...), but I really like their brewed coffee. It's fresh, strong and flavorful.
How could you transfer the coffee from Starbucks to the office or home if it was in an open mug? ;)
