North Carolina Museum of Art

Saturday we went to the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh.

The museum was recently renovated, and to celebrate they purchased several works by Rodin, the French artist. The new building is beautiful, and we spend had a nice time in the museum and afterwards with a drive through downtown Raleigh.

We had teleshko vareno for dinner, a delicious beef stew.

Graduation weekend

Last weekend we celebrated Sasha's graduation; she now has a PhD in Economics from Duke!

Milan, Nadia and Irena attended the festivities, and we had a very fun weekend. Here you'll find some pictures of the various ceremonies.

The weekend started with a Baccalaureate service at the Duke Chapel, followed by the PhD hooding ceremony. On Sunday was the diploma distribution of the Department of Economics.

sports

Durham Bulls vs Lousville Bats

Friday night Milan and I went to see a Durham Bulls game.

We saw the Louisville Bats beat the Durham Bulls with 9-8, but it was a fun evening.

Banitsa

Life is good. This morning Nadia made banitsa, a Bulgarian specialty with filo-dough and feta cheese.

It was delicious, and we took notes on the recipe so we can make it ourselves also.

So proud

So proud!

Sasha's graduation ceremonies will start at 3:00 pm, we're getting ready to leave.

theater

Hair

Yesterday we saw Hair, a great musical. The show started at 7:30 pm in the Durham Performing Arts Center downtown.

When I got home from work I had lost my voice (I have a bit of a cold) but dinner was ready, Bulgarian musaka.

The show was great -- very energetic and fun, and with nice music. A good night out.

Tabovi in the Duke Gardens

Today the Tabovi visited the Sarah P. Duke Gardens.

We're having a very good time. Their visit is also very good for my Bulgarian. I've learned about 60 new words since they arrived, including the word for (Durham) bull: бик.

Sasha's parents arrived in North Carolina

Sasha's parents Milan and Nadia arrived today!

We went to pick them up at Charlotte airport, after making sure that the house is in immaculate shape.

It is great to see them again, and we had a very nice evening together. It's the first time they visit us in the States, so there is a lot to show them.

Français

Summer break French

The university semester is getting to an end, and my French teacher, who is also a professor at a college in Raleigh, is leaving for France for the summer.

In the last lesson we had a great conversation about baking bread, so I learned some delicious vocabulary.

I may pick up French in a few weeks ago (there is a replacement teacher) but for now a break works well. Sasha's parents are arriving this weekend and I'll be concentrating on Bulgarian for a month.

Osama bin Laden dead

Wow. Osama bin Laden dead, what a huge moment.

"I can report to the American people and to the world that the US conducted an operation that killed Osama Bin Laden"

Finally, Bin Laden has been brought to justice. A great moment.

CNN showed people singing the National Anthem in front of the White House, celebrating.

I was just about to close my laptop for the night, when I saw a Facebook update about it. Later we watched the President speaking in the White House.
