Bike trip Arlington, March 19th 2006

A trip through Arlington, March 2006

/11: I started my trip going downhill from Courthouse to Rosslyn. The crossing you see on the picture is quite tricky (a lot of traffic), so I usually step of and use the pedestrian crossings.

/11: The bridge crossing the highway to Roosevelt Island (you can see it in the back, on the left). Roosevelt Island is a very popular place to start a bike ride.

/11: Bridge over the Potomac

/11: Birds.

/11: Reagan National Airport.

/11: After watching the planes at Reagan, I passed the airport and continued the Mount Vernon trail back towards Arlington

/11: The first thing I thought when I entered Arlington (the neighbourhood of Shirlington) was: "back in the real world". The second thought was: "hey, there's a great place for lunch.". It was around 2.30 pm and I was getting hungry.

/11: From Shirlington I took the Four Mile Run trail, a beautiful track next to a small river. The trail was some 6,5 miles long

/11: After a while I arrived at Bluemount junction. Until the 1940's there was popular train route here, bringing passengers from Alexandria to Blue Mont, a mountain resort

/11: The last few miles of my trip where through the suburbs of Arlington. There are no real bicycle paths here, so the choice is between the busy roads or the pedestrian paths
