Renewing my passport
My passport is about to expire and I went to the Dutch Consulate to renew it. There is a honorary consul for the Netherlands in Raleigh, a friendly Dutch business man who provides consular services. I'm glad he's here, otherwise I'd have had to go to Washington D.C., a 5 hour drive from here.
The Dutch, American and North Carolinian flag stood next to each other in the hallway, and the office had pictures of Dutch landscapes and of Queen Beatrix.
This year's bureaucratic experiences have made me cautious but it looks like this passport renewal will be fairly quick and efficient; it should be about 3 weeks.

Is het gelukt met de pasfoto's?
P.s. Morgen gaan we naar Obama hoor.
Hoop dat we er op tijd zijn (gaan kwart over 8 weg) en nog naar binnen mogen (al is het buiten ;-) )

je hebt toch niet gelachen op de pasfoto? Alle Nederlanders komen op een krijgshaftige foto zonder spoor van glimlach. Het beeld van de Nederlander wordt aangepast aan het image. Lachen dat mag niet meer.
Er is een speciale instructie van binnenlandse zaken om Nederlanders die lachen geen paspoort te geven.

What is the address in Raleigh, for the consulate of the Netherlands. My son-in-law needs to update his Dutch passport. Where can you get the paperwork via the internet.
