Virtual disk

Quite some trouble to install the VU stuff; disks work fine but Minix doesn't recognize the virtual hard disk (it's layout) correctly.

Meeting went well

Meeting went well; also copied the Minix system as it runs at the VU to be sure the submit will work. Next Tuesday I'll submit everything officially. I was a bit afraid to enter the computer room where the Minix computers are; maybe they would all be in use... but it turned out there was absolutely nobody.

Today I'll have a meeting with the teacher for my practical work, have a few small questions. If there's place at the computers I'll also try if my stuff works at the VU.

Testing

Today I've been testing all the exercises; they all work fine. This week I'll submit them all.

For one exercise of my previous practical assigments (programming languages), the one in Perl I got a 9. Very happy obviously!

Kernel bug

There's a nasty bug in the kernel now. I created it :) It seems to happen only when the amount of msglog's in the second part of the circulair array < 64... Hmmm.

Message log in Minix

Yesterday evening I started with the 3rd (really the 1st) exercise, making a message log special file. Last year I also did this exercise; I can reuse quite some code (especially from the user program). It's going well.

Kernel part ready

Today I finished the kernel part of the second exercise... I'm ready with the 2nd one! Already tested it quite well, but maybe I should use some kind of automatic testing. Also have to upgrade the code of the 3rd exercise.

But first I'll begin (now) with a new exercise: logging the messages given to and from the kernel, MM and FS etc. Did it last year already; won't be very hard.

User program ACL ready

Cool, finished the user program for this exercise. There is still quite some work to do but it's going well. Today I was programming from 11:00 to 23:00 (still going strong :)). I really want to go on holiday, that's why.
Now I'll start implementing the check in the FS that knows about acl's.

Minix going well

Well... it seems to be working now. No more file system panics, and the fsck says everything looks fine after I've used my new system call. Nice. I'm really happy I don't have to work on naked hardware, but have a nice software shell around it (with oh--a redoable disk, super).

File system

spent the whole day programming in the file system. Still don't trust my code completely yet; but it's going. Pretty boring, alone.
