City of Oaks Half Marathon

City of Oaks Half Marathon. Yesterday I ran the City of Oaks Half Marathon in Raleigh and shattered my personal record. My result was 2:03, a full 15 minutes faster than my previous record at 2:18 in San Diego.

The weather made a big difference; it was pretty cold yesterday and that's easier to run in than the weather we had in the spring and summer in North Carolina and in San Diego. Two long training runs that I did at speed in the last 6 weeks helped as well.

The race was great. When I arrived at 6.00 am it was still cold, so I waited in my warm-up suit for a while. I started fairly close to the front and I just ran with the crowd in the beginning. My goal pace was 10 minutes a mile, but I wanted to get some extra time in the first few miles.

Thursday run

We run our usual course; it was pretty cold. 40 minutes and 3 seconds.

Getting colder

Oh, it's definitely getting colder. Tonight I ran from 7 pm to 8 pm, and the temperature was in the mid 40's. Still, I could go in my regular outfit. I should consider wearing a cap or a thicker T-shirt when it gets colder.

I did my 1 hour course, without the scary part near the ring place (it was really dark). I was at the traffic light after 54:30 minutes.

2:21 in Umstead

This is great! I ran 2:21 hours, 12.6 miles in Umstead. It was 56 degrees. So much easier now it's not so hot. Two weeks ago I did 2:30 when it was in the 70's.

Distance:
13 miles
Duration:
141 minutes

After Bulgaria

Wow it was really though to run on Wednesday after a break of 10 days. But we managed.

Tonight I ran my usual course, in 34:32. The run felt great but I was completely wiped out the whole evening.

50 minutes

I ran for about 50 minutes. I started way to fast, I was at the traffic light in front of Duke University in little over 7 minutes. Since I ran during the day there was a lot of traffic and it took forever to cross the street. I had planned to go for my 1 hour course but I felt too tired early on (guess what, I started to quickly ;)). Feels good. Now ready for a long flight to BG.

Quick 3.5 miles

I did the short campus course today, 32:26 minutes for 3.5 miles (maybe really 3.3 miles) so a little under 10 minutes a mile. Maybe 3.2 because I took the late-night short cut so I didn't have to run over the (dark) Erwin road part so long.

5.33 miles

We ran the 5 mile course today. It was nice to run a distance like this together. The first time for Sasha that she run more than 4 miles. 58 minutes.

10 miles

Did about 10 miles today, part of this route: http://www.mapmyrun.com/route/united-states/nc/raleigh/415904687. I had hoped to do 12.5 miles but it was just too hot so after 2 hours I gave up and walked back. That was actually not too bad -- Umstead is a beautiful park.

Running through a hurricane

I really like my one hour runs. On Friday I did the whole Foods course and back to home through Duke campus. At 59:45 I was at the traffic light.

This was the first time I ran through a hurricane. Or well, tropical storm rather. It was drizzling and later raining, but not extremely windy.

Sunday it was well in the 90s and I decided to do my long run at 1.30 pm. Predictably that didn't quite work and I gave up after an hour, and walked home.
