Weekend alone

Sasha left for Durham on Thursday morning, and she'll be back on Friday so I spent the weekend alone.

Yesterday I traveled to Connecticut; the first time in that state. It's about two hours from here. I visited two Dutch stores there, for reviews for 'the other website'. That was a lot of fun. Had good phone conversations while driving in the car (hands free, yes).

Today was an easy day; I wrote one of the articles about yesterday, went for a run and did some housekeeping and shopping. Ready for the new week.

Six Mile Run

On Sunday I went for a run in a park near our apartment, Six Mile Run. A gorgeous run.

For fun I sent an SMS text to someone in the area: 'haha, do you think there are bears here'. The reply: 'it's where the state releases bears, yes'. Hmmm.

When I came home I saw this letter, from 2005: http://www.franklintwpnj.org/bear_release.html: "...released a 240 pound black bear...".

34 minutes in the snow

It was snowing this morning, and when I looked out the window to Pierce Street I figured I'd either have to sleep in or go to the gym. I walked to the gym to go on a treadmill -- I wasn't looking forward to it -- but I saw from outside that all three treadmills were taken.

The road didn't look too bad at all, so I went for a run outside instead. So much better! It wasn't slippery, and I feel great.

Early morning run

I ran at 6.15 am this morning. 33 minutes.

Cold, as always, but felt good. 19 degrees Fahrenheit, but I had my new cap.

Princeton, NJ

We walked through Princeton, New Jersey this afternoon. Princeton, famous for its university, is 30 minutes away from Somerset and it's a cute little place with high-end shops and restaurants.

From there we drove to Bridgewater Commons and, after dinner, home. It was very cold today, and I bought a cap for running in this weather.

Run with a jacket

It was bitter cold today, with a strong wind. I went out in my summer clothes (these same as I used in Aruba); I realized I had brought the wrong undershirt from NC -- it's Sasha's, not mine so it clearly doesn't fit me.

After 2 minutes I turned around and went back home. Those 4 minutes made me thoroughly cold so I put on a jacket and long pants. Then the run went nicely. Ran 31 minutes.

Runs on Aruba

I ran three times on Aruba. It was even hotter than North Carolina in the summer, which is saying a lot. Once 60 minutes, once 30 minutes and one 40 minutes.

Back home in Somerset

We arrived around 1.00 am in Somerset last night, after a smooth flight. What a beautiful island Aruba is! Great beach, great weather.

We brought home Dutch cheese, a cheese grater (kaasschaaf) and a sun tint. When we got home we heard from the crew about the foiled attack on an aircraft flying from Amsterdam to Detroit yesterday.

No need for sunblock here but at least it's not snowing.

Treadmill again

Treadmill again, actually with intervals it really isn't that bad! 30 minutes, 2 minutes each of roughly 13 miles/hour to 8 miles/hour.
