After a long day of travel yesterday it was good to go out for a run. I had been looking forward to a run in the warm North Carolina weather but today it was raining like crazy.

I ran an hour, the Wholefoods course. Great as always. Nicely tired now.

There's a new pavement next to Erwin road, where I used to run through the grass. I was always a little worried about snakes there, although I never saw any.

Sasha and I left at 8.40 am this morning, and arrived around 2.00 pm in Washington DC in the house where she'll be staying. We met our friends there, and I left two hours later.

The second part of the road trip was much less fun than the first, driving alone, but the radio kept me company. David Plouffe, the campaign manager of Barack Obama, spoke in Richmond last week and NPR in Virginia broadcasted his very interesting speech on the influence of new technology on his work and on election campaigns.

Speaking of new technologies: with Google Maps and Yelp I found a nice place for dinner on 85 South. In the middle of nowhere really, but a nice place to sit down. I arrived in Durham at 9.30 pm. Good to be back home.

We'll be leaving in a few minutes from Somerset to Washington, DC. Sasha will start an internship on Monday at the International Monetary Fund. A great opportunity.

After I bring Sasha to her new place there, I'll continue driving for another four hours until I reach Durham, NC.

Sasha and I went for a walk last night, that was nice. This morning before work I put in a run. Good to run.

When we were first in the Catskill mountains 12 years ago I didn't know the Dutch history of the Hudson Valley.

Close to the resort where we worked are the Kaaterskill Falls. Kaater is Dutch for 'cat', Kill is an old Dutch word for 'creek'.

Start of the short trail to the Falls.

Bottom of the Falls.

Yesterday we made a trip back in time -- 12 years, to be precise. In June 1998 Sasha and I met each other for the first time in Tannersville, New York in an exchange program. Yesterday we visited the hotel where we then worked.

The resort changed owners several times since we were there, and sadly it's in pretty bad shape. Two workers were patching things up for the summer season and allowed us to go inside and take some pictures.

It was amazing to see the places were we worked that summer, and a great day trip.

"Antonio's", it used to be called. In the summer that we were there it became the "Diamond Horseshoe Ranch".

Seating area near the office.

My old room! We used to stay here with 5 guys.

Hallway. The place is in bad shape but it was great to see it again.

Backdoor to the kitchen area. Here's where I've folded hundreds and hundreds of cardboard boxes.

Should have gone yesterday, was too lazy. Great run tonight after work. Still light at 8.00 pm, I started my run around 7.00 pm.

I had planned to go for a run yesterday evening but I gave in and had dinner (bread with cheese). Instead, I went for a run this morning. My motivation has been lacking a little bit -- definitely last week, and yesterday/this morning as well. But as always, during & after the run it felt great. 35:36

Ran 35 minutes, the slightly longer run. Side started hurting 65-70% in, that was painful all the way through the end. Stopped for a few moments to throw a road hazard from the road onto the grass. Feels great, cleared my mind after an important conversation at work. Got into a 'trance' for a while, was good.
