Hero

I was preparing dinner when all of a sudden Nora came running towards me.

"Eng! Eng! Beessie!"

A big flying insect of some sort had come through the kitchen door and Nora was scared. I didn't want to kill the creature, so shooed it back outside with a piece of paper and it quickly disappeared.

Just then Sasha came home and Nora explained what happened.

"Beessie!" -- and with relief and admiration in her voice: "Pappa!"

Ballston pond

We ran a little longer today, added a run around Ballston Pond to our usual course.

Nora was very happy that we were going for a run. She really loves it! So do I.

Going down the slide

Since a few weeks Nora goes down the slide by herself. She knows how to walk on the steps, sit down and then slide down.

Here she is at the playground in Quincy Park.

Getting dark

We left at 6.30 pm and it was already getting dark. I switched on the yellow chain light at the Kirkwood crossing near the Italian Store.

Extending our route

This weekend I realized that the standard route we run is only 3.8 miles, not 3.9, so I had to adjust my numbers in the database for the past 20 runs or so.

Tonight we extended our run a little bit, to make a nice round 4 miles. Nora definitely noticed -- she's not crazy about changing the route and of course the run took a little longer. Since we also started late at 6.45 pm it was very dark outside. The lights on the stroller work well. The last remaining lights just arrived today, so we'll try them on our next run.

We took Utah from Fairfax Drive to go back towards Washington, a next time we should probably take 2 streets over since the sidewalk on Washington is quite narrow.

A little bit sad

In the morning we went to Clarendon Day, and after Nora had lunch and went to bed, I decided to go for a run. It was the first time in many weeks that I ran without Nora and it was a little bit sad! When passing our usual highlights, there was no little voice yellow "ven-ti-la-tor" or "motor" or "Wash, Lee!". Anyway, she'll be awake in two hours and I'll give her an extra hug... but I won't tell her I ran without her!

It's faster though, running without the stroller. The weather is also great for running today.

Julian's 6th birthday

We celebrated Julian's birthday this weekend. The trip to Secaucus on Friday afternoon took longer than usual, and Nora was getting a little annoyed in the car, but once arrived we all had an excellent time.

On Saturday Julian and Ilana went to see Spiderman on Broadway, a great experience for them. Nora had a blast with her cousins. She was sometimes a little scared of all the energy and noise and jumping... but she kept saying "Julian! Ilana!".

On the way back Nora slept the entire trip, she woke up 20 minutes before we were home.

Water? Nee, rennen!

Since I didn't run in the weekend we went out on a Monday evening. It's getting colder -- Nora had her white shoes on.

She's a great motivator. When I ask: "wil je water?" (which also allows me a break!), she answers: "nee! rennen!"

Naar de bakker

Nora woke up at 6.50 am this morning and after a few minutes she made sure we were awake as well. Nora and I went to get bagels. It was a nice outing -- Nora really enjoys these small trips.

G: Nora, ga je mee?
N: Auto rijen?
G: We gaan naar de bakker!
N: Brood kopen?

After we came back:

G: Nora, waar waren we?
N: Auto!
G: En waar gingen we heen?
N: Bakker!
G: En wat hebben we daar gekocht?
N: Brood! Kaas!
