Paperwork

This week it's been busy at work as we have a release coming up. I'm learning some new technical stuff, mainly around Ruby, and I did some Javascript work. To my surprise that wasn't too bad and I even enjoyed it -- Javascript used to be my least favorite language but tools like prototype and script.aculo.us make it a lot nicer than what it used to be a few years ago.

Today's been an easy day. I've been organizing some paperwork and I'm preparing to file taxes.

Daylight saving time

This Sunday we switched to daylight saving time, so as I'm writing this it's 7.10 am and still dark outside.

In the evening it's staying light longer which is nice, especially for running. In the Netherlands the clock hasn't changed yet so the time difference is 5 hours instead of the usual 6, for a few weeks.

Rainy night & politics

Rainy night.Another Tuesday night, another political nail biter. Ms. Clinton had her first two wins in over a month and the campaigns keep going on.

It's a raining quite a lot tonight, a welcome supply of water. There was even a tornado warning in effect for central North Carolina.

Lots of TV

This afternoon there are two major TV events, and I'm watching neither. In the US there's the Superbowl, and in Holland there's a special report on the Holloway case where a reporter claims to have solved the case of her disappearance in Aruba.

After a nice, long run this morning I'm getting ready for baking the Italian dish, with a beer and the Democratic debate in the background.

Baked potatoes

I spent two hours shopping this afternoon for ingredients for an Italian dish I had planned, but at 8.00 pm I still hadn't started cooking.

Since the recipe involves making dough and baking it and it is at least two hours of work I decided to leave it for tomorrow and made something else. Inspired by a very enjoyable dinner yesterday night I grilled steaks and served them with baked potatoes and broccoli.

Decisions

Road salt to prevent icing in front of our office.A day of decisions... With his convincing win in Nevada, my prediction of Mr. Romney becoming the nominee for the Republicans is increasingly likely. It's time for Mr. Thompson to give up. He's always looked like he didn't really want to be President and today's results reflect that again. Mr. Giuliani didn't even try to participate in Nevada and stayed focussed in Florida. As a reporter on CNN put it: "he's going to Disneyland every day".

We got a little bit of snow today but we're warm inside. We've been watching TV all afternoon, the first results started coming in at 2.00 pm EST.

Ms. Clinton did quite well today, if not as well as predicted a month ago. The fight between Clinton and Obama will continue. There's another Democratic debate on Monday and next week's elections in South Carolina will be very interesting.

While he may have a relative good performance in South Carolina, today's result are again bad for Mr. Edwards. He probably won't give up until next Super Tuesday, but I don't believe he has a real chance for the nomination anymore.

Snorkeling trip

Guus and Sasha. One of the many highlights of our vacation in the Dominican Republic was a snorkeling trip to a reef in the ocean.

Some pictures of a wonderful adventure. The waterproof case of the camera was great.

Cliffs of the Neuse

This afternoon we did some shopping in the outlets in Smithfield and we went for a walk in the Cliffs of the Neuse state park. It's a very nice park, not very big but pretty. It must be very nice in the spring also.

I'm still working on the pictures of Punta Cana... There is so much to do and think about.
