4th of July weekend

Happy Fourth of July! We're leaving tomorrow morning to Charleston, South Carolina.

Charleston is about 5 hours from Durham and it promises to be a warm weekend in a beautiful Southern city. It looks a little bit like Savannah which we visited a year ago.

Saturday it's Fourth of July and tomorrow is a day off. Independence Day is a great opportunity to celebrate America, a country that has welcomed us with open arms on so many levels.

Run instead of the gym

Went for a run instead of going to the gym since I wanted to get rid of some extra energy. As always, the Whole Food course is perfect for that. Just long enough to make me tired, not long enough to wear me down.

Forgot to switch off my watch when I arrived, so I'm guessing about 63 minutes (66 when I was in front of our door).

Saw Analia and Belen on the way.

85 degrees, 41% humidity

6 miles

First run in 6 days

Has been a while. Busy weekend. Second time in a row: after running a half marathon on Tuesday, I lack energy to run Thursday and even the weekend. Need to take it more easy.

86 degrees. 35:28 minutes

4 miles

35 minutes

Unhappy?

Unhappy? The owner of this car we saw parked the other day at South Point must not like his or her job very much.

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson died this afternoon, sad news.

I have fond memories of a concert he gave in Amsterdam and not just because of the concert, it was a lot of fun.

A great musician.

A deer

Deer.Tonight I saw a deer from really close by.

For a lot of people here deer are very common, somewhat likes ducks are in Holland, and deer are even considered somewhat of a nuisance since they damage gardens. For me seeing a deer is something special. It seemed to be a younger deer, and it wasn't scared at all.

Gus

GusGrown up Soda, or... Gus.

We saw this in a supermarket and gave it a try. "Gus is the first soda made truly for adult palates. It's less sweet than typical flavored sodas, juice drinks and bottled teas."

Race tomorrow

I'm looking forward to tomorrow morning; I'll be running the Race for the Cure in Raleigh. A short, friendly race and I'm running with NCRC.

Today was a long day; I worked from home and did a lot of small bug fixing. Addicting stuff.

A day in Wilmington

Caprice Bistro.Yesterday was a perfect start of the three day Memorial weekend. In the afternoon we went to Wilmington, where we enjoyed the board walk at the river. A real summer feeling with live music outside and lots of people on the streets downtown. The weather was gorgeous.

We had dinner in Caprice Bistro, which was excellent. Great French food, with a Belgian touch. The pate was a highlight. Wilmington is about 2 hours and 15 minutes from Durham, so we were home around midnight.
