Baby shower Guus
A few days ago my colleagues threw me a surprise baby shower.
We have a bi-weekly team meeting at 3.00 pm. I was on another call until 3 pm so I hurried from my desk to the conference room. When I entered it was all dark and then someone threw the light switch on and there were a lot of pink cupcakes on the table. A very nice surprise!
We ate the cupcakes and played a game of “guess the baby food that’s in this diaper”. I picked “honey” and “guacamole” on the first diapers until I realized that this was actual baby food. I guessed 0 out of the 7 diapers correctly.
We received very nice gifts and great cards with wishes. Thank you all!
A good excuse for a stroopwafel
Today is Dutch-American Heritage Day and to celebrate I brought stroopwafels to my work. They were well received.
In the evening I went for drinks at Mackey’s Pub with a nice group of Dutch people. I have a cold so I stayed only a little while but it was fun.
First week at work
I had a great first week at my new job. There is a lot to learn — many systems, many acronyms, but I feel it’s getting there. The people I have met are all very friendly and helpful; it seems like a great place to work. And by the way, I have a job opening for an engineer.
I took the metro to work, except on Thursday when it was raining a lot. Still have to figure out what I’ll do going forward. The metro is nice, but by car is still faster and parking is cheap.
