Guus Bosman

The direct translation of the book's title is "How God Disappeared from Jorwerd". It deals with the changes in a village in Friesland between 1945 and 1995. The writer, Geert Mak, is a professor at the Universiteit van Amsterdam. He lived many years in this village and he spoke with many villagers.

Reading the book made me feel melancholic, as it describes how many good things disappeared and how lives of the people in the village changed completely in these 50 years. It made me realise a bit more what enormous changes there have been in a relatively short period. Specifically the life of farmers changed enormously.
