New website

Conversion complete. This morning I switched my website from PHP Nuke to Drupal.

Most work in the migration was writing a script to transfer the articles, specials, book reviews and comments from one database format to another. The script converted 121 users, 1693 stories, 42 book reviews, 30 topics, 65 specials and 1999 comments.

Now there is a lot of tweaking to be done over the next couple weeks. It's great fun to get to know Drupal, and I'm really happy with my choice.

Als ik als BLIPS een commentaar wil achterlaten krijg ik de melding dat die naam geregistreerd is en krijg dan vervolgens links het inlogscherm. De exac te melding is;

"The name you used belongs to a registered user."

Als de comments getoond worden zie ik nergens de link naar mijn eigen weblog, ook die van anderen kan ik niet zien terwijl dat wel gevraagd wordt bij het maken van een comment. (Ik weet wel dat het geen verplicht veld is)

Okay, I understand the problem now. If a user is not logged in and places a comment, there is a field for "Your name". If the anonymous user would type "Blips", or "Guus", the system will give the error message "The name you used belongs to a registered user."

I am not sure what to do about this. I certainly don't want to require people to log in to place a comment. At the other hand, I don't want anonymous users to be able to 'hijack' somebody's user name either.

On the old site this problem didn't exist: anonymous users couldn't type a "Your name" field. If somebody wrote an anonymous comment but placed his or her name in the comment itself, I would later assign that comment to his/her user account.

I have absolutely no problem with doing that, so for now that may be a solution. I'll see what other things we can do.

By the way, there is one advantage that logging in will give a user: it allows you to upload images in a comment.

Vreemd inderdaad dat de URL die je intypt niet wordt geplaatst. Ik heb gezocht op de Drupal site maar nog geen snelle oplossing gevonden.

Je kunt eventueel wel een signature gebruiken. Die wordt automatisch onder elk bericht van je gezet als je bent ingelogd.

Gewoon op Wordpress overstappen

Drupal vs. Wordpress

I'm glad to see that everything is okay.

I know you were just joking, but I have actually seriously looked at Wordpress for this site and I think it's a great tool.

In my comparison the differences between Drupal & WP weren't all that large. In the end, the main reason for my choice was that Drupal is a little bit more ambitious (it tries to be a complete CMS), even though I don't use all of that functionality.

Wordpress-software geïnfecteerd na hack site

Maandag 5 maart 2007, 11:37 - De site waarop de populaire Wordpress-software wordt aangeboden was vorige week gehackt. De aanvaller heeft de software voorzien van malware.

Mensen die de afgelopen vier dagen Wordpress 2.1.1 hebben gedownload wordt aangeraden deze te verwijderen en de nieuwste versie, 2.1.2, te downloaden. Dat meldt Wordpress-maker Matt Mullenweg op zijn site. "Het is iets waarvan je hoopt dat het nooit zal gebeuren, maar het heeft toch plaatsgevonden", aldus Mullenweg over de hack. "We doen er nu alles aan om het probleem zo goed mogelijk op te lossen."

Mullenweg is door een extern iemand gewezen op de kwaadaardige code in zijn software. Een hacker heeft toegang verkregen tot de server waarop de software wordt aangeboden. Hierna heeft hij twee bestanden aangepast waardoor het mogelijk is om op afstand php-code uit te laten voeren. Mullenweg denkt zeker te weten dat alleen versie 2.1.1 onder vuur is genomen en dat alles inmiddels weer veilig is.
